Syracuse Time & Alarm is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Fire Alarm Technician to lead the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm systems in both commercial and residential environments. This role requires in-depth knowledge of fire alarm systems, safety regulations, and best practices to ensure high-quality, reliable installations. The Senior Fire Alarm Technician will also serve as a mentor to junior technicians and contribute to project planning and execution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installation & Maintenance:
    • Install, test, and inspect fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72 standards and local fire codes.
    • Program, configure, and troubleshoot fire alarm control panels, devices, and peripheral equipment.
    • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on fire alarm systems, identifying and addressing potential issues to prevent system failures.
    • Provide timely and efficient repairs to fire alarm systems when issues arise, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Technical Leadership:
    • Serve as a subject matter expert on fire alarm system installations, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
    • Lead junior technicians, providing guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to enhance their skills and knowledge.
    • Conduct quality control inspections to ensure that all work meets company standards and industry regulations.
    • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure smooth execution of fire alarm installations and repairs.
  • Project Support & Documentation:
    • Assist in planning and executing fire alarm system installations, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
    • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and project specifications to execute installations accurately.
    • Maintain accurate records of installations, service requests, and maintenance performed, ensuring documentation is up-to-date and compliant.
    • Communicate with clients regarding system functionality, troubleshooting steps, and recommendations for system upgrades or improvements.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure that all installations and repairs adhere to NFPA 72 and 101 standards, as well as local building and fire codes.
    • Uphold safety procedures according to company policies and OSHA standards, ensuring a safe work environment for all team members.
    • Perform regular safety checks and ensure that all work complies with safety regulations and best practices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fire alarm system installation, service, and repair.
  • Extensive knowledge of fire alarm systems, control panels, and associated equipment (such as Honeywell, Siemens, and Notifier).
  • NICET Level II or III certification in Fire Alarm Systems is preferred.
  • Experience with commercial and residential fire alarm installations.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72, 101, and local fire codes.
  • Security and alarm licenses are a plus.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Leadership and mentorship abilities, with a track record of managing junior technicians.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work on ladders and scaffolding as needed.

SCHEDULE:

  • Full-time position with regular business hours, Monday to Friday.
  • Occasional weekend or after-hours work may be required based on project demands.
