The US Government Department of Defense (DoD) has established criteria for a true Mass Notification System (MNS) in its Unified Facilities Criteria 4-021-01 document. The criterion specifies the use of a combined Mass Notification and Fire Alarm System for new construction and recommends the same for retrofits.
